Fuengirola – An Appealing Town
For All Ages

Fuengirola is recognised as being a more traditional family sort of town and is a hugely popular destination for holidaymakers or would-be residents looking for a new home.

The town itself is very appealing for all ages. It is completely flat so has easy access to all residential districts. There are seven kilometres of great beaches (floodlit at night) and the town also boasts a rather attractive, not too large, Marina with some decent, well-priced restaurants.

Across the road from the Marina is the main restaurant area of the town. It’s a thread of three or four pedestrian streets with every type of cuisine available from Italian to Mexican and even the occasional Spanish restaurant!

The town has undergone quite a facelift in recent years thanks to its young, energetic Mayoress and consequently presents a more sophisticated image than that of the past. It is no longer just a summer resort. This is an all year round town. It has some excellent schools , any number of sports and social clubs and even a (well-supported) English theatre.

Shopping is good with some attractive boutiques around the church square area. Another must for shopaholics is the Miramar Shopping Centre with more than 150 shops, a dozen luxury cinemas, and an inviting food court.

Plus, the most famous shopping name in Spain, El Corte Ingles, has also opened its doors here. This is an upmarket store with international boutiques, a travel agency, a gourmet club and … you can buy your newspaper, have your haircut, get your shoes repaired and even purchase your winning lottery ticket - all under the same roof!

And, talking about shopping, this lovely town has a huge, open-air market for the bargain hunters on Tuesdays. Plus: another market on Saturday mornings selling bric-a-brac and antiques.

There are too many attractions to mention here as you may imagine but the one that all visitors rave about is Fuengirola Zoo. It is fairly new and has a direct contact, no barrier style. The zoo runs a breeding programme for several seriously endangered species and in fact, sixty animals have been born here over a two-year period.

In the summer the doors remain open until the early hours so visitors have the opportunity of strolling through the jungle in the moonlight!

So, that is a brief visit … a taste of Fuengirola today. Hope you enjoyed it … and will come and see us soon.
