Mijas and Fuengirola Theme Parks

Here we´re going to kick-off with one of the big favourites, Mijas Water Theme Park ... the family-friendly theme park in the heart of the Costa del Sol. Open May to September.

This is a great day out in Mijas with lots of water experiences … rafting, shallow water activity pools for the tots … the twists and turns of the Labyrinth Slides and Adventure River for the wildest ride … plus the near vertical Kamikaze Slide … which you and I wouldn’t go anywhere near but that the kids think is cool, wicked, awesome, etc. etc.

Apart from ´fun in the sun` on the water attractions there is mini-golf, a rock-climbing area and daily musical shows … enough to keep the most hyper happy all day long … but, for some it can prove all too energetic !

For those in search of a slower pace there are plenty of deck chairs provided and two shady, green, picnic areas … even massage by the pool ... so no excuses, mum !

Mijas Water Park is really very good value at 41.50€ for a family of four. One tip – leave this particular day out for the end of the holiday or you’ll find the kids will want to do nothing else !!

Situated just off the N340 behind Fuengirola. Tel: 952460404 Open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Adults pay 15.50 euros and children from 4 to 12 years it is 10.50 euros. There is a discount ticket available for 2 adults and 2 children priced at 41.50 euros.

Torremolinos has an Water Theme Park too – take the N340 exit Palacio de Congresos.

And now for something completely different … Fuengirola Zoo. If your last visit to a zoo was walking along in a line looking at a series of caged animals then please have a re-think because the new Fuengirola Zoo is soooo…… not that. It is innovative. a no-barrier, direct contact experience that visitors rave about.

The natural environment created here ensures that the animals live as they would in their own habitats. In fact about 60 animals have been born in a short space of two years … which confirms that the animals behave here in this quiet lush setting as they would in nature.

First attraction is the Island of Madagascar … and the curious 26 mtr. high Baobab tree under which the Antelopes sleep at night.

Continuing through the enchanting forest you’ll have fun with the curious Lemurs that run around in between your feet and may even come up and touch. These little creatures are a seriously endangered species and are part of a breeding programme here at Fuengirola Zoo.

Next stop is Equatorial Africa … where along the shoreline you’ll be greeted by the huge Nile crocodiles and on the other side of the sandy beach a colony of pink dwarf flamingos and busy little crested ducks.

Strolling up the slope you’ll have the pleasure of meeting the chimpanzees and Lola, the matriarch, taking care of the whole family including baby Nata, recently born in Fuengirola Zoo.

And now we’ve arrived in Southeast Asia ….. and the three young gorilla “bachelors from Borneo” (Lee Lee, Peek and Bassir) allow us to witness how they live together in their recreated jungle. Here you can watch these chimps and gorillas monkey around close up.

In the summer months the zoo is open until the early hours and visitors have a unique opportunity to stroll around the jungles of Africa and Asia in the moonlight and, best of all … enjoy an open air dinner at a restaurant in the middle of these Tropical Forests ! In July and August there is a special offer for entrance, dinner and a show of African music and dance for 30 euros per person.

C/ Camilo José Cela, Nº 6-8 Fuengirola. Tel: 952666301 Open from 10 a.m. until midnight. Entrance for children aged 3 to 9 years is 9.70 euros and adults pay 14.10 euros

Mijas and Fuengirola have lots and lots of attractions but last on our list for today is a trip out on the Aquavista catamaran to discover the magic world of the sea. This very special catamaran equipped with powerful spotlights and glazed side panels makes for unique underwater viewing. The highlight of the trip is, of course, dolphin spotting and with a bit of luck these intelligent mammals will come to playfully swim alongside the boat.

Fuengirola Port. Reservations. 679554067 Price per trip for adults is 15 euros and children 8 euros.

Leaving Mijas and Fuengirola off we go now to the attractions of Benalmadena and Torremolinos
