Shopping in the Plaza Mayor

For something really different take a day out and visit the Plaza Mayor, a beautiful open-air shopping centre situated between Torremolinos and Malaga.

Built in traditional Andalusian style … the shops are set around flower-filled squares decorated with fountains and shady trees … … don’t get there too early though … the precinct doesn’t wake up until 10 or 11 a.m. … but it does stay open very late …

… compared to other commercial centres there are not too many shops, presently around 50 (with plans to grow) … but this shopping arcade however provides great family entertainment … the kids can go bowling … there’s billiards, video games, darts and a bunch of other stuff to keep them entertained for quite a while.

Here there are continual events going on throughout the year from book fairs to horse shows … all free of charge.

There’s plenty to see and do … there are over seventy bars and restaurants throughout the centre plus twenty ultra modern cinemas, a gymnasium and two discotheques.

And a recent popular addition to this charming commercial area is the famous Swedish IKEA store for cheap and stylish home furnishings.

There is also one more advantage here if you’re married to a mad golfer and he doesn’t fancy trolling around the shops … the shopping centre is across the road from the Parador de Golf so he can pre-book his tee-off time and then drop you off at the shops … it just doesn´t get any better than this !
