Mijas La Cala Branch of The Lions Club

This branch of The Lions Club has distributed over 100.000 euros to local charities since its inauguration in 1998. This year it celebrates its 10th Anniversary. The Mijas La Cala Lions Charity Shop in the village is now well established and producing a regular income for members to donate to worthy individuals or organizations that need help. Manageress Roz is always looking for volunteers to help out during the week (mornings only). Call her on her Mobile: 677 059 061. The Lions meet twice a month in the Restaurante Ole. Mijas La Cala Diabetic Support Group

This group was founded by Anne and Frank Bowles in 2003 with much help from the Mijas La Cala Lions. News was filtering through that newly diagnosed diabetics were not always getting the correct medical advice. Language barriers did not help and many were very unhappy and depressed about their condition. The aim of the DSG is to create a forum where fellow diabetics can meet on a regular basis. Local specialist doctors and nurses are asked to speak and a discussion session is held to talk over individual cases, new drugs and treatments available along with innovative ways to diet and help counteract this world wide problem. At present there are three meetings held every month in different parts of Malaga. COIN – at the film studios on the first Friday of every month 10.30 for 11am. ALHAURIN DE LA TORRE – at Sol Andalusi on the second Friday of every month 10.30 for 11am. FUENGIROLA – Café La Vida at the Feria Ground on the last Friday of every month 10.30 for 11am. The group is also hoping to find a venue soon East of Malaga to encompass the Nerja/Torre del Mar area. Anyone who is interested in attending meetings will be made very welcome.
